T-Birds Serve is excited to partner with Something to Eat again for a feed the funnel party next semester. And I am writing to you today to sign-up for this event and consider an additional end-of-year donation so we can pack even more meals that all stay in KC!
T-Birds Serve Event
What: Something to Eat - Cone Zone Party
When: April 6, 2018, 9 a.m.
Whether you are 3 years old or 90+ years old, there is something you can do. You will stand shoulder to shoulder with your group and pour cups of rice, soy, vegetables, vitamins, and cheese into a bag and then weigh, seal, and box each bag as together we dream of each box going down the street to the local food pantry. Each meal you package will help the 1 in 5 children that struggle with food insecurity. Are you unsure of what being food insecure means? Don’t worry we will have an educational time where you can learn about this and other facts about hunger and poverty!
Join us for what is sure to be a FUN night that will spark great conversation among your family!
MINIMUM DONATION OF $35 PER FAMILY (UP TO 4 PEOPLE) paid directly to Something to Eat.
Sign-up now! Your gift is tax-deductible and would be a great end-of-year donation for 2018.
If you have any questions or want to support T-Birds Serve in a bigger way, please contact Karen Badgett at 913-26-9342 or email@example.com.
Please help the PTA thank our non-classroom teachers and staff by contributing to the non-classroom staff holiday fund to purchase gift cards. A suggested donation of $5 per family, or more if you wish, would be greatly appreciated! You may leave your donation in the office by Friday, December 7th.
Each year, the PTA wishes our Trailwood staff happy holidays by providing them with a box of delicious HOME BAKED cookies. Please help us make the staff feel special by baking 3 DOZEN of your favorite cookie. Cookies will be collected, packaged, and delivered to each staff member the morning of Thursday, December 13.
Volunteers will be out in the carpool lane on that morning to collect your baked goods.

Thank you to all who came and supported the pancake breakfast this year. Thank you to the volunteers who helped collect money, serve food, set up and clean up. We could not do it without the help of our Trailwood community.
Legislative Update - January 8, 6:30 p.m.
Our legislative update from our state senators was a success so we are doing it again with our state House members, Rep. Stephanie Clayton and Rep. Jan Kessinger, on January 8 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. A new session will be starting in Topeka the following week so there will be a lot to discuss when it comes to funding schools, taking care of our awesome teachers, school safety and more. You'll want to hear how our new governor and changes in the legislature, including the loss of a number of moderates in Johnson County, will affect the agenda. Mark your calendars and plan to come out! Child care is provided (as always). See you there!
This year's election is over and we saw extremely high turnout in area. Well done! Here are some of the most education-relevant results for the Trailwood area.
US Representative - Sharice Davids
KS Governor - Laura Kelly
State Representative - Stephanie Clayton (generally north of 99th St) and Jan Kessinger (generally south of 99th St)
Johnson County Chair - Ed Eilert
Johnson County Commission - Janee Hanzlick (Overland Park families) and Becky Fast (Prairie Village families)
Here are two articles that show how the election results could impact our school in the coming months and years:
Through T-Birds Serve, Trailwood Elementary PTA hopes to create a community of compassionate children who understand the importance of giving to others. On the heels of a successful room party event with our Sock Kit donation, we wanted to share some ways that you and your family could give back this holiday season. It doesn't take much to keep on giving!

We appreciate the flexibility and support of our parents and staff.

FYI...Just a friendly heads up that we do play and explore lots of items and materials that can be a chocking or safety hazard for children younger than 3.The activities are more geared towards children 3 years+ but feel free to bring younger siblings if needed.
Thunderbirds, you ROCK! You donated more than enough supplies for every student (kindergarten through 5th grade) to pack a sock kit for the homeless! We delivered 375 sock kits to ScrapsKC. They were speechless!
THANK YOU from ScrapsKC:
ScrapsKC's mission is to care for Kansas City's environment, to educate about homelessness and to serve the hungry. We are very grateful for the support we have had from the Trailwood community. ScrapsKC distributes the socks to homeless in three different ways. First, socks are given to any homeless person that volunteers in our store. Second, we serve breakfast on the streets every Saturday morning. If it has been raining, socks are brought to that location and handed out. Finally, the sock kits are available for our customers to take and give to the homeless they see on the streets.
Thank you for your generosity and support as we work together to care for Kansas City.
