Demolition of Trailwood Building
The following letter was sent to those listed at the top to help facilitate discussion between Trailwood parents and decisionmakers regarding the abatement and demolition of the old Trailwood building.
December 8, 2016
To: Dr. Hinson, Dr. Southwick, Bob Robinson, Dave Underwood (JE Dunn)
CC: Deb Zila, Sarah Goodburn, Craig Denny, Donna Bysfield, Patty Mach, Cindy Neighbor, Brad Stratton
As you are well aware, there is a growing concern among the parents of Trailwood regarding the abatement and demolition process that is scheduled to begin on Jan. 27 in regards to the health and safety of our children and staff that will be in the building within close proximity as well as having recess on the premises. There has been some exchange of information between small groups of parents and the district administration but no dissemination to the population in general. Parents are not content with the amount of information they have received about this major event taking place so close to their children and the possible risks it entails.
It is my understanding that a meeting is already scheduled with the key people involved as well as other experts in the field in order to gain more information about the risks involved. We greatly appreciate your taking the time to further investigate this issue!
I am writing on behalf of our Trailwood parents and community to request a community forum for the purpose of providing an opportunity for you to present the results of your meeting along with a presentation of your plan for abatement and demolition. We would also like the opportunity at that meeting to have specific questions and concerns from our community addressed in some type of format. It is our plan to gather questions/concerns and submit them to you all before your meeting so that you can ask the appropriate questions at that time to have those answers.
It is my understanding that your meeting is scheduled for the middle of January. There is a fair amount of concern that timeline is getting very close to the scheduled abatement date of January 27. We would also like to request that those meetings dates be moved up so that the discussions about possible options can take place now. Parents want to know that not only will they be heard, but that adequate time is allowed for appropriate action to be taken.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Christa Rupp
