SUBJECT: October 2020 PTA Newsletter

October 2, 2020
Hello from the President

Hello Trailwood!

Here’s to October! I hope this new month finds you well.

Thank you to all that were able to attend our first general PTA meeting. The turnout, conversation and participation was wonderful.

Though our schedules and events look different this semester, there are still ways to get involved. Please be sure to check out the entire newsletter for a whole slew of information on exciting things going on for Trailwood. From PTA memberships to Auction updates. Dining partners to Reflections Contest. There are so many wonderful ways to participate and show support for our community.

As we transition into the hybrid learning model, an anticipated Halloween party may be scheduled differently. Be on the lookout for communication on grade level specific dates.

Check out upcoming important dates below. Looking forward to “seeing” you for our next general meeting on October 13th at 7pm. The link for that virtual meeting will be sent out closer to that date.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Go Thunderbirds!

Back to School Safety Information
Nurse's Notes

As Trailwood prepares for a hybrid model of in-person learning on October 5th  thru October 12th, we are asking parents to start performing this COVID-19 Daily Assessment for Students with their child each morning. If your child answers yes to any of the information AND it is a new symptom unrelated to a previous condition, please keep them home and call your school nurse, Catie Donovan at 913-993-5602, or email her at catiedonovan@smsd.org

Thermometers

If your child is signed up for in-person learning, a thermometer along with this COVID-19 Daily Self-Assessment will be sent home with the youngest child on their first day of school.  Please contact Nurse Catie if you need one before their first day of in-person learning.

Please take time to read the Back to School Safety Tips link that goes over the 3 W’s and the 3 C’s.  These are truly the keys to a successful school year.  Thank you so much for doing your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Directory Update

It’s Time to Update Your Membership Toolkit Account!

It’s the beginning of a new school year, which means that it is time to update your information in our school directory, Membership Toolkit! This process is quick and easy, gives you access to the online directory, and ensures that you will receive communication from the PTA all year long.  Simply log into your Membership Toolkit account and follow the prompts to update your family information and publishing preferences.

Are you new to Trailwood Elementary or still need to create an account?

Just follow the steps below.

- Go to http://www.trailwoodptaop.membershiptoolkit.com.

- Click on the Register/Login button and please log in with the email address you supplied when registering your child(ren) for school.

- Select Create Account and fill in your name, email and password information.

- Click on Verify My Email and then check your email for a link to complete the process. The link expires in two hours.  If you do not receive the email, please check your spam or junk folders.

- Log back in and update the Parent/Family and Student Information and Directory/Publish Preferences, once you have verified your email address.

*Please note that if you are new to Trailwood Elementary, your data is not automatically published in the directory.  You will need to edit this in order to make your information visible!

- Determine if you wish to invite another email address to access the primary account. This allows the secondary user to have his or her own login information, but still have access to the family account.

-If you’d like, feel free to download the free Membership Toolkit App! Visit the App Store or Google Play Store and search for Membership Toolkit.  Download the App, and then log in with the same username and password you used online.  You can then control what notifications you receive and how you receive them within the App. Just tap the Settings Wheel at the top right, go to Communication Settings and specify your preferences.

Please contact Cara Peterson at caraelizabeth1@yahoo.com with any questions.

While you’re updating your information in Membership Toolkit, please consider purchasing a PTA membership for the 2020-2021 school year!  Becoming a member doesn’t obligate you to attend meetings or volunteer; you can be as involved as you’d like!  You do not even have to be currently enrolled to purchase a membership.  Anyone can join the PTA!  Memberships range from $10 - $20 and help us to provide support to the students, families, teachers and staff of Trailwood Elementary.

To purchase a membership, simply log into your Membership Toolkit account and follow the prompts.  You can also purchase your child’s yearbook and yearly activity fee at this time.

Thank you for your consideration and support of Trailwood Elementary!

Please contact Cara Peterson at caraelizabeth1@yahoo.com with any questions.

Join us for a Johnny’s Tavern-Trailwood Dining Partner event         Wednesday, Oct. 21! All. Day. Long. Just tell your server you are with Trailwood and Trailwood will get 20% back!

Call (913) 901-0322 for that pick up order. Click here for their menu and location information.

What a great way to support your school! And getting out of making dinner doesn't sound too bad either!

We are looking for volunteers to be room parents this school year. Room parents will be expected to:

  • Coordinate teacher gifts (Birthday, Holiday, End of the Year)
  • Plan classroom parties for teachers to facilitate (Socially distanced activities and no food)
  • Organize supplies needed for classroom parties (This may include porch drop offs or school pick up for students in remote mode on party days)
  • Plan monthly lunches for teachers

I will attempt to make this as easy as possible, giving you ideas, email formats, and suggestions!

Here are our current Room Parent needs:

Pre-K AM

Pre-K PM

Kindergarten Burchstead

1st Grade Mellen

3rd Combe

3rd Swenson

4th Waters

5th Dulle

6th Davis

Let me know if you would like to support your classroom teacher this school year!

Thanks so much!
