Hello, Trailwood Community!

It’s hard to believe, but December is here already! We’ve had a busy and fun first half of the school year, and I hope that the upcoming winter break is an opportunity to relax and recharge before the new year!

Even with a week-long holiday break, November was a busy month here at Trailwood! We loved seeing so many family members and friends at the school for our annual Special Person’s Lunch. This is a long-standing Trailwood tradition that we were so excited to bring back this year! We also had a hugely successful Book Fair, and we thank everyone who offered their support as a volunteer or a customer! Thanks to your generosity, our library will be getting some amazing new books to fill the shelves! And, of course, we were thrilled to once again honor our veterans at our Veteran’s Day assembly. Thank you to our students, staff and volunteers for making this day special for those who served in our community!

Each February, Trailwood hosts its biggest fundraiser of the year, and this school year is no different! We can’t wait to enjoy a night out with everyone in-person again at our Happy Hour and Trivia Night on February 25^th at 6:00 pm at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center!

We’d like to extend a big congratulations to our Trailwood PTA Reflections Contest winners! Way to go! First place winners have moved on to the district level and will have their artwork on display at the Reflections Open House at the Center for Academic Achievement on December 7^th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

Piper Disalvo was an honorable mention in the Intermediate grade division for her Visual Arts watercolor submission titled name tag. 

Brecklyn Harrison was our Trailwood award winner in the Middle School grade division for her Dance Choreography titled Something Wild.

Maxwell Deane was our Trailwood award winner in the Intermediate grade division for his Dance Choreography titled I Feel Brand New.

Brynn Weiss was our Trailwood award winner in the Middle School grade division for her Literature submission titled One Song.

Kat Harvey was our Trailwood award winner in the Middle School grade division for her Photography submission titled Starting the Conversation.

Brielle Keunen was our Trailwood award winner in the Intermediate grade division for her Visual Arts submission titled Pumpkin Patch.

Lily King was our Trailwood award winner in the Intermediate grade division for her Literature Poetry submission titled The Little Bird.

Our many Trailwood events could not happen without the support of our wonderful committee chairs and their teams of volunteers! Please thank these amazing committee chairs for sharing their time and talents with us during the month of November!

The PTA is committed to supporting the students, families, teachers and staff of Trailwood Elementary. You can help us in this effort by becoming a PTA member. Becoming a member doesn't obligate you to attend meetings or volunteer; you can be as involved as you would like! Here is a link to purchase your membership as well as activity fee and yearbook here.

If you choose not to become a member, please remember that you still need to update your information in the directory. Doing so allows us to communicate with you throughout the school year and gives you access to the online directory. Families frequently use the directory for birthday party invitations, play dates, sports teams and more. For them to be able to see your information-please select that you want your information to be published in the directory.

While our room parents organize holiday gifts for our classroom teachers, we also want to recognize our non-teaching staff this season! Please consider donating to the holiday fund for our amazing staff members who greatly impact our children everyday! 

A suggested donation of $10 per family is greatly appreciated. Funds collected will be used to purchase gift cards as a way to thank these important members of our Trailwood community.

You may leave your donation in the office or send it via Venmo to Cher Brownback @Cherylynn-Brownback (last four digits of phone number are 6571) by Friday, December 16th. Thank you!

Hello parents! Winter class parties will be taking place on Monday, December 19th! Party food will remain the same as it was for Halloween. All items must be pre-packaged with an ingredient label, and fruit/veggies are acceptable, as well. No homemade items should be brought in. Goody bags should not include any food items. 

Be on the lookout for communication from your room parents on what they need for the party with regards to supplies and in-class helpers. Your room parents will also be reaching out about collecting for teacher holiday gifts.
