Legislative Update

Make your Plan to Vote on November 4!

  • Overland Park and Prairie Village residents have the opportunity to vote for their city council members and mayor (for OP only).
  • There are no contested school board races in SMSD.
  • Everyone will have Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees and Water Board races on their ballot also

Early Voting is Now Open!

Deadline to Register is Oct. 14th

Don't be intimidated to ask your elected officials and candidates what they see as their roles in supporting public education. Although they don't directly fund our schools, like state legislators do, city officials can advocate and support in many ways.  Make your voice heard by casting a ballot on (or before!) Nov. 4th!

Spirit Wear

The 2025 T-Bird Trot was a huge success, with nearly 400 Thunderbirds participating! Thank you all for coming out and enjoying a wonderful night of fun and community!

We'd like to thank our 2025 T-Bird Trot sponsors!

Odyssey Coffee, run by our very own Seipel family, is located in the shopping center next door to Trailwood!

Kumon Learning Center, also next door, provided financial sponsorship which helped us run the event smoothly!

Creekwood Orthodontics gifted re-fillable water bottles for each registered family, along with 2025 T-Bird Trot water bottle stickers!

We also want to thank Price Chopper for the generous donation of bananas and delicious cookies!

Room Parents Update

Hello Room parents! Halloween is approaching and that means many of you will be planning parties for your classrooms. The Halloween parties will be held on Friday, October 31st. Please remember there are some rules to follow regarding food being brought into the school. Fruits and vegetables are most preferred to bring. No homemade foods or soda products are allowed. Other foods must be pre-packaged with the ingredient label and sent to the class teacher prior to the party for approval. Please reach out with any questions or clarifications that can be provided! Thank you for all you do! Jen McDonald jenschmidt3@gmail.com Room Parent coordinator.

Reflections Contest

Hello Thunderbird parents and students!

This fall, we welcome the return of the annual PTA Reflections Contest—a nationally recognized program that celebrates student creativity and artistic expression both at school and at home. All Trailwood students, regardless of grade or ability, are invited to participate and bring this year’s theme to life:

✨ 2025–2026 Theme: “I Belong” ✨

Students may submit original works of art in one (or more) of six categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Each entry should include an artist statement explaining how the work connects to the theme. A Special Artist Division is also available to ensure every student has the opportunity to participate.

📅 Entry Deadline: October 15th

  • Digital submissions & questions: Email Terri Delimont at tdelimont@gmail.com

  • Physical entries (visual art & photography) + signed entry forms: Deliver to Shereen North in the Trailwood Elementary office by October 15th
