Election Day is November 6 and this is a huge election for public education. You'll be voting for Kansas Governor and your representative in the Kansas State House, which allocates state funds to public schools like Trailwood. You'll also be voting for Member of Congress, County Commission and more! The PTA as a nonprofit organization does not endorse candidates, although we encourage you to be as informed as possible. There are several education-focused groups, including Education First Shawnee Mission, Stand Up Blue Valley and the Kansas National Education Association (KNEA), who do endorse candidates that they believe will support public education in Kansas.
You can vote early at Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center on Friday (10 am-7pm) or Saturday (9am-3pm) or at your polling place on Tuesday. Visit jocoelection.org to find your polling place. Vote, vote, vote!
Thank you to our local Costenio's Price Chopper for generously providing dinner for our teachers on Thursday, October 18th as they stayed late to meet with parents. Grateful to our local businesses who support our school.
We’ve made it through August and have settled into a routine. THANK YOU to everyone who worked through the summer to prepare for the school year and to those who helped with all our early events!
We still have some committees needing a chairperson - please consider volunteering if you can. Box Tops, Open House and School Pictures are just a few of the spots we need filled. Please contact Heather McClure (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested. Also, thanks to everyone who attended MVP training. The District is working to expand dates and times for fingerprinting, but it's fantastic that we have so many parents who want to volunteer in our schools!
Don’t forget to purchase your Adult Grade-Level Happy Hours and T Bird Trot packages. Links are in the newsletter below. It’s going to be a busy, fun fall!

Registration Now Open for the Annual T-Bird Trot!
Join Us Friday, September 28th at 5:30 pm!
It's the fall event you've been waiting for! The fun run/walk through the neighborhood will end up on the Trailwood playground for dinner and dancing to a DJ's tunes! Back this year are the wildly popular Chick-fil-a sandwiches and NEW, a gluten-free, healthy option.
The event is FREE to attend, but registration is now open for t-shirts, dinner and other commemorative SWAG. Go to the PTA Store tab on the website or click here: http://www.trailwoodpta.com/store/c20/T-Bird_Trot.html All funds raised over the cost of the event go to the library. Mrs. Fritz says this fund makes up about a third of her annual budget and provides lots of books for our kids. So buy two sandwiches!
Final day to purchase t-shirts is September 13...so click now!

Come join us as we say, "Good-bye" to summer and "Hello" to school!
Friday, September 21, 2:00 - 3:00 in the Trailwood Cafeteria.
I'm Victoria Savich and this will be my 7th year running PAT!
I am a Mom of 3 boys, I currently teach Pre-K and I have been in the early childhood education field for 20 years!
PAT is a super fun way to get to know Trailwood and have your kiddo meet some fellow soon-to-be Kindergartners as well. We meet once a month from 2-3p.m., on the last Friday of each month (schedule permitting) until May. We do a simple craft, listen to a story, sing a few songs, play with some messy, sensory experiences and enjoy a snack!
FYI...We do play and explore lots of items and materials that can be a chocking or safety hazard for children younger than 3. The activities are more geared towards children 3 years+ but feel free to bring younger siblings if needed.
This month we'll have an APPLE THEME so we'll sing a funny song about apples and bananas, make some apple art, eat an apple snack and have our Principal. Mr. Lawrence read us an awesome book about school.
I am SO excited to get to know your future Trailwood Thunderbirds!
Victoria Savich and Lindsey Guillen

The 5k is the Shawnee Mission South band’s largest fundraiser and a portion of the proceeds get returned to the South-area elementary and middle schools to buy music and instruments!
Runners will be greeted by the SMS band on the course -- and the drum line plays at the finish line.
