Hello, Trailwood! I hope everyone has settled into the school year routine. Thank you to all who attended the T-Bird Trot and Back to School Night. A special thanks to the Trot Committee; Megan Foreman, Vivian Hamilton and Albert Lee who pulled off quite an event! We surpassed our goal for our library fund all while having a great time! We have a busy fall with so many fun opportunities to get together and support our community. Please take a look at the newsletter below and keep an eye on the calendar for all the upcoming events. Pastries with Parents, our first General PTA meeting, Park Place Wine Walk and Grade Level Parent Parties are all right around the corner. A great way to get reminders and information about upcoming events is to follow Trailwood PTA on Facebook. I look forward to seeing everyone around at these events and remember to please reach out if you have any questions! Go Thunderbirds! Jen Pontier, PTA President Jennipontier@gmail.com

Our mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. The PTA is a national organization that strives to make public education the best it can be for each student. At Trailwood here are just a FEW specific ways our PTA does that:
Did you know that every year is an election year? In odd-numbered years we always have local government officials to elect, including members of our Shawnee Mission Board of Education. This year, most Trailwood families will vote for two positions. All Shawnee Mission families will vote for the at-large position currently held by Brad Stratton, who is running unopposed. Those families living in the South Area will vote for a new member to replace outgoing member Deb Zila, who is retiring. There are two candidates running, both parents of students in the district: Brian Brown and Jessica Hembree. Candidate forums featuring both candidates are scheduled to occur on:
PTA does not endorse candidates but encourages everyone to register to vote by Oct. 15 and to vote with PTA priorities in mind on Nov. 5. On Sept 18th we’re planning an apple themed treat day. We’re going to be serving a savory spinach, apple, and walnut salad, but would love some help with other sweet treat. If interested in helping, then parents can sign up here: Thank you! Jules and Steph Trailwood will be hosting an MVP 1 hour training event on Tuesday, September 17th from 5:30-6:30 in the commons. This is a great opportunity for anyone who would like to do the following at Trailwood:
