T-Birds Serve is excited to partner with Something to Eat again for a feed the funnel party this semester.

T-Birds Serve Event
What:  Something to Eat - Cone Zone Party
When:  April 6, 9:30 - Noon

Whether you are 3 years old or 90+ years old, there is something you can do. You will stand shoulder to shoulder with your group and pour cups of rice, soy, vegetables, vitamins, and cheese into a bag and then weigh, seal, and box each bag as together we dream of each box going down the street to the local food pantry.  Each meal you package will help the 1 in 5 children that struggle with food insecurity. Are you unsure of what being food insecure means? Don’t worry we will have an educational time where you can learn about this and other facts about hunger and poverty!

Join us for what is sure to be a FUN morning that will spark great conversation among your family!

MINIMUM DONATION OF $35 PER FAMILY (UP TO 4 PEOPLE) paid directly to Something to Eat. Please register by April 3rd.

Legislative Update

We still do not have a school funding plan from the state legislature. The Senate passed a reasonable education plan to keep in place the current funding formula and provide the necessary inflation funding for our schools. The House barely passed its own education plan, which contains policy provisions opposed by PTA including eliminating a commitment to fund special education and limits on instruction for English Language Learners. A Conference Committee has been appointed to negotiate the final details between House and Senate. The good news is that Trailwood's four legislators have supported the PTA position every step of the way so far. Please thank them!

In the News:
  • As Republicans, we know this tax plan would move Kansas backward (Opinion Piece by Trailwood legislators Rep. Jan Kessinger and Sen. John Skubal)
  • Kansas Gov. Kelly and House GOP clash on school funding as deadline approaches
  • Time's Nearly Up For Kansas Lawmakers To Resolve School Spending

Attention Trailwood Kindergarten - 3rd Grade Families!

We are thrilled to host a special event with local children's book author Alastair Heim on Monday, May 6th at 9:00am in the Trailwood Commons!

I have been working with Alastair over the course of this school year getting his delightful books into the hands of elementary school kids in and around Kansas City. Alastair has written four children's picture books and he is kind enough to do a free story time and book signing with our Kindergarten-3rd graders! All four of Alastair's books will be available to pre-order through The Learning Tree (yay for supporting a local author AND a local business!) and he will sign and personalize each book at the event. What a wonderful keepsake for your child and a great gift for all of those upcoming birthday parties!

A link to the order form is below, but you will also receive a paper copy that will come home with your child in the upcoming weeks. Please turn in order forms to Shereen in the front office and all orders must be received by April 15th to ensure enough books are ordered from the publisher.

I am so excited to bring Alastair to Trailwood! I hope you will consider ordering his books to take home to enjoy with your families!

If you have any questions, I can be reached at kristina@the-learning-tree.com

Thanks so much,
Kristina Keairns

We will read a fun color/art themed book, sing some songs about colors, explore different types of ways to make art and enjoy a yummy colorful snack! Also, If you don't see a future thunderbirds name/email on our guest list...please let me know and be sure to invite them to RSVP!
-Mrs.Victoria Savich and Mrs. Lindsey Guillen

FYI...Just a friendly heads up that we do play and explore lots of items and materials that can be a possible chocking hazard for children younger than 3. Plus, we also do lots of MESSY, open ended play that works on social and emotional skills. Please dress your child accordingly.
