Hello, Trailwood! Fall is party-central at Trailwood. We hope you’ve been enjoying the grade-level Happy Hours. There’s still time to attend our school-wide fall fundraiser - the Trailwood Games on Saturday, October 6th. Come to battle or just enjoy watching others fight for victory! All proceeds go to the Mini-Grants fund. If your child has ever been pumped for scooter day in PE, balanced on a wobble stool or been challenged by Breakout Curriculum, they’ve experienced the benefits of the Mini-Grants program. All spirit wear was delivered to your oldest child’s classroom on Friday, 9/28 or left in the office if requested and confirmed previously. There will be some leftover low inventory spirit wear for sale either as cash and carry in the office with Shereen or offered online at the PTA store beginning mid October. Please let the Spirit Wear committee know before 10/10 of any discrepancies or if you have not received your order. Any discrepancies addressed after that date cannot be guaranteed to be corrected. The auction funds over 50 programs to enrich the educational experience of our students and provide support for Trailwood staff. Proceeds supports cultural arts programs, school field trips, teacher stipends, community events, and enhanced learning experiences throughout the year. We are excited to announce that Trailwood has been chosen by Safe Kids of Johnson County as the 'highlight' school for this year's Walk to School Day. Please plan to walk to school this day and come early. Festivities will begin at 7:30. There will be a FedEx truck on the playground to tour and you can learn more about pedestrian safety. The Indian Woods Middle School mascot will be there to help celebrate with other live entertainment. A light breakfast will be available. Please join us at our annual Fall Movie Night next week on Thursday, October 11th in the Trailwood Commons. There is no school the next day!! Doors open at 6:00pm and the movie starts around 6:30pm. Come out to Trailwood at 7 p.m. to meet state Senator Barbara Bollier and Senator John Skubal. They will be prepared to discuss school funding and will take questions about other issues of concern to you and our community. Election Day is November 6 and this is a huge election for public education. You'll be voting for Kansas Governor and your representative in the Kansas State House, which allocate state funds to public schools like Trailwood. You'll also be voting for Member of Congress, County Commission and more! The PTA as a nonprofit organization does not endorse candidates, although we encourage you to be as informed as possible. There are several education-focused groups, including Education First Shawnee Mission, Stand Up Blue Valley and the Kansas National Education Association (KNEA), who do endorse candidates that they believe will support public education in Kansas. There are several opportunities to meet and hear directly from candidates before election day at candidate forums.
