Hello, Trailwood!
We’ve made it through August and have settled into a routine. THANK YOU to everyone who worked through the summer to prepare for the school year and to those who helped with all our early events! We still have some committees needing a chairperson - please consider volunteering if you can. Box Tops, Open House and School Pictures are just a few of the spots we need filled. Please contact Heather McClure (hmcclure1436@gmail.com) if you are interested. Also, thanks to everyone who attended MVP training. The District is working to expand dates and times for fingerprinting, but it's fantastic that we have so many parents who want to volunteer in our schools! Don’t forget to purchase your Adult Grade-Level Happy Hours and T Bird Trot packages. Links are in the newsletter below. It’s going to be a busy, fun fall! Go Thunderbirds! Heather McClure, PTA president hmcclure1436@gmail.com Don't forget our annual Dads and Donuts is coming up on September 28th. Get to school early, as we'll have donuts, coffee and juice ready and waiting at 7:30 out front. And remember, this event is not just for dads - everyone is welcome...moms, grandparents, etc. We can't wait to see you for some quick morning fun on 9/28! ![]() Fall Flight Time is currently enrolling! Click to sign up your child in these teacher-led six-week clubs. We have nine classes available, which is a Trailwood record! There’s so much to do including STEM activities, art projects and history. Please take a few minutes to read over our list for the Fall. I’m sure you’ll be excited. The Fall session runs Thursday afternoons from 3:15-4:15 pm, September 20th-November 1st with no class on October 11th. Enrollment is open until September 14th. If you are interested in a scholarship, please contact Shereen North, shereennorth@smsd.org. If you have issues enrolling online, please contact Amber Hipp, amberhipp@gmail.com. https://one.bidpal.net/2018fallflighttime/welcome Registration Now Open for the Annual T-Bird Trot! Join Us Friday, September 28th at 5:30 pm! http://www.trailwoodpta.com/store/c20/T-Bird_Trot.html It's the fall event you've been waiting for! The fun run/walk through the neighborhood will end up on the Trailwood playground for dinner and dancing to a DJ's tunes! Back this year are the wildly popular Chick-fil-a sandwiches and NEW, a gluten-free, healthy option. The event is FREE to attend, but registration is now open for t-shirts, dinner and other commemorative SWAG. Go to the PTA Store tab on the website or click here: http://www.trailwoodpta.com/store/c20/T-Bird_Trot.html All funds raised over the cost of the event go to the library. Mrs. Fritz says this fund makes up about a third of her annual budget and provides lots of books for our kids. So buy two sandwiches! Final day to purchase t-shirts is September 13...so click now! *Financial assistance for PTA sponsored events Come join us as we say, "Good-bye" to summer and "Hello" to school! Friday, September 21, 2:00 - 3:00 in the Trailwood Cafeteria. I'm Victoria Savich and this will be my 7th year running PAT! I am a Mom of 3 boys, I currently teach Pre-K and I have been in the early childhood education field for 20 years! PAT is a super fun way to get to know Trailwood and have your kiddo meet some fellow soon-to-be Kindergartners as well. We meet once a month from 2-3p.m., on the last Friday of each month (schedule permitting) until May. We do a simple craft, listen to a story, sing a few songs, play with some messy, sensory experiences and enjoy a snack! FYI...We do play and explore lots of items and materials that can be a chocking or safety hazard for children younger than 3. The activities are more geared towards children 3 years+ but feel free to bring younger siblings if needed. This month we'll have an APPLE THEME so we'll sing a funny song about apples and bananas, make some apple art, eat an apple snack and have our Principal. Mr. Lawrence read us an awesome book about school. I am SO excited to get to know your future Trailwood Thunderbirds! Educationally yours, Victoria Savich and Lindsey Guillen ![]() The library is still in need of someone to help Mrs. Fritz on Monday mornings, alternating with another volunteer (so only twice a month). Volunteers typically spend 1-2 hours first thing in the morning, checking books in and shelving to get the library ready for the kids! I am also maintaining a list of those interested in helping Mrs. Fritz with special projects that come up in the library, requiring helping hands. If you’d like to be placed on this list I’d be happy to add your name! Any questions? Don’t hesitate to ask! Meg Guthrie Megguth@aol.com ![]() Trailwood Legislative Forum - Oct. 9 @ 7pm We are pleased that Trailwood's four state legislators have all agreed to join us for our October 9 evening PTA meeting. Come out to Trailwood to meet state Reps. Stephanie Clayton and Jan Kessinger and state Sens. Barbara Bollier and John Skubal. Our legislators will be prepared to discuss school funding and will take questions about other issues of concern to you and our community. This is a real treat to have them so please mark your calendars and plan to attend. Primary Election Complete - General Election November 6 The primary election was held on August 7. The winners of the primary election advance to the general election, which will be held on November 6. Many decisions about our schools are decided by election outcomes, including funding levels, school safety, investments in early education and much more. Please make a plan to vote! You can register to vote, or update your registration if you've moved, online at https://ksvotes.org/. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Cheatham, Legislative Chair, at melissa.cheatham@gmail.com |
