Trailwood has a wonderful opportunity to provide sock kits for the homeless in partnership with ScrapsKC. Scraps KC is a non-profit that offers ways for everyone to participate in caring for the homeless in Kansas City. We are currently collecting items for the sock kits and then our kids will actually pack the kits at the Halloween class parties on October 31st. We hope to provide over 350 kits for ScrapsKC to hand out to the homeless.  Below is a list of items that ScrapsKC would like for us to include in the sock kits.  We designated a certain item for each grade levelin order to ensure a mix of donations.  We will need each child to bring in 10 of their assigned item to ensure we have enough for all of our kids to participate.  Please place your donations in the bin located in the foyer of the parent entry of the school by October 24th.

  • Kindergarten - 10 packages peanut butter crackers per child
  • 1st grade - 10 chapsticks per child
  • 2nd grade - 10 rain ponchos from the Dollar Tree or 10 small hand sanitizer bottles per child
  • 3rd grade - 10 travel size deodorant per child
  • 4th grade - 1 case of small water filled bottles (8 oz size) per child
  • 5th grade - 1 package adult men's tube or crew socks (Walmart or Target) per child
  • 6th grade and preK - bring any of the items listed above

Through T-Birds Serve, Trailwood Elementary PTA hopes to create a community of compassionate children through engagement and involvement in humanitarian service projects related to aiding, clothing and feeding those in need.  We want to help children understand the importance of giving to others and we hope that they will continue to give as adults.
