SUBJECT: November 2021 PTA Newsletter

November 5, 2021

Hello, Trailwood Community!

I am not really sure where October went but November, the month we celebrate thankfulness and gratitude, is here! Thank you all for continuing to be a community I feel grateful to be a part of.

A very special thank you to Cher Brownback for not only coordinating a super fun Walk to School Day, but for also coordinating our Room Parent committee. To all of you room parents and those that donated supplies to help make a day of Halloween festivities so fantastic, you are appreciated! How fun it was to see the parade of kiddos (and staff!) in costumes as well!

Another huge thank you to Lori Tritsch for making an in person book fair possible and so successful. It was wonderful to see so many families attend our long time favorite event. Because of your participation and generosity, Mrs. Fritz is able to stock the library with new titles!

I hope to see you at our next PTA meeting, Tuesday, November 16th at 6pm instead of our typical 7pm time. We will meet in the library, masks required. If you are not able to attend in person, a Zoom meeting link will be sent out a couple of days prior. Please never hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Go Thunderbirds!

We Care I Can Food Drive

This November the Shawnee Mission School District will once again participate in the annual “We Care I Can” food drive to benefit the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. With continued economic challenges and the growing number of Johnson County families in need, the efforts of the Shawnee Mission School District are even more deeply appreciated.

The items most needed are: canned tomatoes, fruit, corn, peas, cereal, macaroni & cheese, jello, peanut butter, dry baby food, canned meat, canned dinners and soups.

The Student Council Officers will be collecting cans from now until November 11th.  Each grade level is competing to bring in the most cans.  There will be a popcorn party for the winning grade level.  Thank you for your support.  Let’s see if we can fill up the space underneath the stairs!

2022 Trailwood Elementary Auction

The annual Trailwood Auction will return to the regular in-person format on February 26th, and this year we're taking it waaayy back with a Grease-themed party! We are busy planning for this fun annual event, and we can't wait to celebrate and support our amazing Thunderbird community with milkshakes, hotrods, pink ladies and plenty of school spirit!

Yearbook Photos Needed

We need your help to make the 2021-2022 yearbook amazing! Please use the link below or visit the Trailwood PTA website to upload photos to be included in this year's yearbook. We'd love your fun photos from the first day, school events, extracurricular activities and more! If possible, please title the uploads with specific information (grade, name, activity, event, etc). Thank you!

Grade Level Happy Hours

First of all, we'd like to give a big shout out to the many hosts who have graciously arranged our grade level parties over the past few weeks! Thank you for making these fun events possible! Trailwood parents and guardians have had such fun getting to know one another, while also supporting the PTA.

We still have two parties on the calendar. The 5th grade parent/guardian happy hour (and optional corn hole tournament!) will be held this Saturday (11/6)  from 3:00 - 7:00 at Round Hill Bath and Tennis Club. The 3rd grade parent/guardian happy hour will be held next Saturday (11/13) from 4:00 - 7:00 at the Pylelo home.  Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased at https://www.trailwoodpta.com/form/m/166023.

PTA Mini Grants Awarded

This week, PTA approved $3,200 worth of mini-grant funds for teachers at Trailwood. Unlike individual teacher stipends, mini-grants are more geared towards serving larger groups of students. Just a few examples of approved grants include iPad microphones for joint music/library projects, a clay slab roller for art, and a new chicken egg incubator for 1st grade. We are very grateful for this generosity from our parent community!

Our overflowing Trailwood lost & found will be put outside each Friday (beginning next week, 11/12) on the south side by door 14. It will be kept out there all day so that parents can come look through it and claim their lost items.
