Hello Trailwood Families!

Thank you to all that participated in our 2022 Auction. Despite another year of weird circumstances, it seems we’ve made the best of it and with your generosity, had a wonderfully successful event. These funds help PTA support Trailwood’s amazing staff and students.

A BIG thanks to everyone who made the virtual Grease Themed- 50’s Auction a huge success!

 The final numbers are still coming in but as of now, we are very happy to report that we have made close to $50,000!

-Gift card ONLY won auction items can be picked up at the Trailwood front office starting Monday, March 7th.

If you couldn’t pick-up your household ticket swag bag, those are available in the office as well!

-All other won items will be available for pick-up THIS Saturday, March 5th between 2-4 p.m. from the Saunders driveway at 4800 W. 101^st Terrace, OP, 66207 in the Monitor Square neighborhood.

-All teacher/staff experiences, Adult and Kid grade level parties will be coordinated by the donor/hosts soon. Please look for an email from them about a date and time for each event or party.

-Want to own a print featuring your child's classroom artwork from the 2021-2022 school year? Prints are now available in the following sizes:

2022 Auction Committee

Next Tuesday, March 8th, is the next PTA meeting, and we are so excited to be joined by a very special guest speaker. Dr. Tyrone Bates is the SMSD Coordinator of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and will be speaking and answering questions at this upcoming meeting. We look forward to seeing you there, 7pm in the Trailwood library.

Thanks to all who attended our Feb. PTA meeting, featuring local SMSD and Kansas State Board of Education representatives. Great information about district issues, as well as the funding and policy issues in the state legislature that have a major impact on our district and schools.  The first half of the Kansas legislative session is over, and several bills related to public education are still in play. The most concerning of these are bills that:

• Divert public tax dollars to public schools. For every 1% of Kansas students who participate in proposed Education Savings Accounts, $22.5 million in public funds would be lost. 
• Create an administrative burden on our teachers, who are already stretched thin, taking their time away from educating students. 
• Remove $50 million in at-risk funding from schools with a larger number of at-risk kids who need more interventions and services. 

• Allow teachers to skip required curriculum if it goes against their religious or other beliefs (ex. some students learn about evolution while others do not)

It’s not too late to purchase a PTA membership, yearbook, or activity fee! Becoming a member doesn’t obligate you to attend meetings or volunteer; you can be as involved as you’d like!  Memberships range from $10 - $20 and help us to provide support to the students, families, teachers and staff of Trailwood Elementary.
