Hello, Trailwood! November is here! While I try to live daily with a thankful heart, November gives us so many opportunities to express our thankfulness.

I was so happy and excited to see so many of you at the playground for our Walk to School Day at the beginning of October. What a great morning we had! And then to wrap up our month in the same place for our awesome Halloween Song performances and Costume Parade was just the cherry on top of a great month at Trailwood. Make sure to tell Mrs. Seipel how thankful you are for her work with our kiddos on their songs!

I hope lots of you were able to get out and enjoy connecting with other Trailwood families at our Grade Level Parent/Guardian Parties. Thank you to all of the wonderful families who hosted!

November is going to be another exciting month at Trailwood, and we hope you can join us at some of our upcoming events, many of which are happening during Book Fair Week! You’ll find more details below on all the events throughout the newsletter, but please don’t hesitate to reach out anytime if you ever have any questions. Community Blood Drive

We hope you'll join us for our second annual Trailwood community blood drive on Saturday, November 18th, to honor one of our own, Moira Aaron-Castillo, who courageously battled neuroendocrine (NET) cancer for 3 years. November is NET cancer awareness month and Moira, like many patients facing NET cancer, needed frequent blood transfusions during her treatment. We honor her by hosting this annual Trailwood Community blood drive and continue her legacy of courageously giving what we have with the time we’re given.

Legislative Update

Vote on November 7th for SMSD School Board

This November 7th is a very important election. Most TW families will vote on TWO SMSD board of education seats for our district.

Who is on your ballot? Check out your sample ballot before heading to the polls. In addition to the school board, you may also be able to vote for city council and other county-wide positions. Check out the graphic below from SMAC PTA for ways to learn more about candidates!

Ready to vote? Vote in advance now at Johnson County Arts and Heritage Museum, as well as other locations across the county. Or just head to your polling place on election day, Nov. 7th.

PTA Memberships and Yearbooks On Sale Now

Support our PTA by purchasing a membership. We’re managed solely by parent volunteers, and our funding comes from membership dues and fundraising. Becoming a member does not obligate you to attend meetings or volunteer (although, we’d love to have you!). Our PTA provides students, staff and families with a variety of fun and educational opportunities here at Trailwood. Our success depends on your support!

Staff Appreciation Pies

The Teacher and Staff Appreciation Committee would love if all staff members could go home with a pie for Thanksgiving break. Pies can be homemade or store bought. Please have pies delivered to Trailwood by Friday, November 17^th at 1:00. We will have a cart that morning at drop off if you would want to bring it then!

Scholastic Book Fair

Our fall Scholastic Book Fair is almost here! The fair will be held in the Trailwood Library from Wednesday, November 15th-Saturday, November 18th. All students will have the opportunity to shop the fair during their library specials time as well as after school until 4:00 each day. On Saturday, the fair will be open from 8:30-11:00 for one more opportunity to shop! Cash, credit cards, and e-Wallets will be accepted.
