SUBJECT: December 2020 PTA Newsletter

December 4, 2020

Hello, Trailwood Community!

It's hard to believe the end of the year is here. As we approach these last weeks of 2020 (phew!), I'd like to acknowledge the amazing perseverance this community has shown and how truly outstanding our Trailwood teachers are!

Despite the current times, November was quite a busy month. Thank you to all that participated and contributed to our various events! With Winter Break quickly approaching, I hope you are able to take the time to enjoy the holiday season, stay safe and healthy.

To show appreciation for all of you amazing PTA members, please stop by Hattie's Fine Coffee in Prairie Village, December 9th from 8am-9:30am and enjoy a made to order coffee on us! Please be sure to mention you are a Trailwood PTA member. Thank you for your support for the PTA especially during this strange season!

Go Thunderbirds!

A huge congratulations to Kate Hipp for winning the Hattie's Trailwood Special Blend Coffee label contest!

We have some very talented artists at Trailwood, and we are so impressed by all of the amazing label designs that were submitted!

TEACHER APPRECIATION

We love our teachers and want to continue to show them our appreciation. PTA has helped provide a snack and beverage stash in the lounge, boxed lunches and treats during conferences, Starbucks gift cards prior to Thanksgiving break, and amazing team t-shirts.

SMAC Clothing Exchange

The Shawnee Mission Area Council Clothing Exchange is now open. As of this week, donation bins are out again. If dropping off donations, please be mindful of the weather as volunteers are only onsite about twice a week to unload the bins. Other options for donation drop off are Monday mornings, 9am-12pm, when volunteers are onsite and Thursday evenings, 4pm-7pm, while open for shopping.

Most needed items:

- Tennis shoes: All sizes and styles, boys and girls. This would include adult sizes as many students start wearing adult sizes in upper elementary school.

- New underwear: All sizes toddler- adult (especially boys).  Socks as well but frequently have to purchase underwear to cover needs.

- Pajamas: New and used in all sizes, most needed pajamas in children's sizes 12 and up. All sizes move very quickly.

- Older boys and girls clothes:  Winter weather appropriate! Sizes 12 and up are regularly the lowest inventory items.

- Winter outerwear: Coats, snow pants, snow boots

- Hats & gloves: All sizes

- Bedding: Lap blankets, sleeping bags, pillow cases, sheets, bed blankets. Many of these items are also used by the McKinney-Vento Homeless program at the district.

- Towels and washcloths: CE almost never has these donated but when they do, they are gone very quickly!

- Books: Early reader through YA

Items NOT currently needed:
- Infant and toddler items: There is a back stock of these currently.

- Household items: Décor or furniture

- Dress clothes and dress shoes of any size or business wear:  party dresses, khakis, sports coats, dress shirts

- Toys: Due to the high hand contact these items bring, t is not possible to disinfect these after every shopping event.

It's the most wonderful time of the year....to say thank you!

Please consider donating to the holiday fund for our amazing non-classroom teachers and staff who greatly impact your child daily!

A suggested donation of $5 per family is greatly appreciated. The money collected will be used to purchase gift cards as a way of saying thank you to these important, vital members of our Trailwood community.

Please leave your donation in the office by Friday, December 18th.

Thank you!

T-Birds Serve/Harvesters Food Box Drive

Harvesters picked up the Holiday Food Boxes on November 24th. What a generous community we have! Trailwood donated 84 Holiday Food Boxes and $525!!! The money collected was donated instead of buying more food as Harvesters can provide 3 meals for every $1!

Thank you to all that contributed!

Please continue to upload photos to the yearbook link: plicbooks.com/go/krYpg or email your photos to Vivian Hamilton at vivian@outlookcreative.com and Heidi Erenberg at heids07@gmail.com. We know that everyone has great multiple "First Days" (first day remote, first day hybrid, first day full-time) photos and other fun photos with sports, friends, family, neighbors, and Halloween!!! We want it ALL!!!

Thank you kindly for all your help to make the yearbook as representative of the crazy year we are navigating.
